Mary Beth Fitts discusses Archaeobotany Methods and Research

As part of the Archaeological Lecture Series, Mary Beth Fitts of OSA will discuss the specialization of archaeobotany (also known as paleoethnobotany), which focuses on the recovery, analysis, and interpretation of plant materials from archaeological sites.

Student Research Symposium

In celebration of North Carolina Archaeology Month as well as the ongoing research many undergraduate and graduate students have been participating in here at the NC OSA. The Symposium will take place on October 21, 2016 from 2-5pm at the North Carolina State Library and Archives at 109 East Jones Street in Downtown Raleigh. Student presentations will last approximately 10-12 minutes. 

New Archaeologist at OSA

I am very pleased to announce that the Office of State Archaeology (Department of Natural and Cultural Resources) has a new staff archaeologist. Mary Beth Fitts will join us in mid-October as Assistant State Archaeologist, replacing Lea Abbott on his recent retirement. She will be based in Raleigh, at the central offices of OSA.
