Programs

The North Carolina Office of State Archaeology is here to serve the citizens of our great state. We aim to identify, protect and preserve the archaeological resources through coordination, education and research. The OSA reviews applications for The National Register of Historic Places and coordinates with other state agencies and local governments about protection of archaeological sites. The OSA works to help further the understanding of history and prehistory in North Carolina by maintaining and providing collections in academic research. To help increase the public's knowledge about the field of archaeology, the OSA hosts symposiums, public digs and volunteer opportunities. The OSA strives to protect resources without slowing progress through the environmental review process. The programs of North Carolina's state archaeology program are as diverse as the state itself.
