Mahjong is a tile-based game that was developed in China during the Qin Dynasty (1644-1912). These particular tiles were hand carved from ivory and were found in the town of Halifax, on the lot where Dudley’s Tavern once stood. Halifax was established in 1757 as a commercial center and today is preserved as Historic Halifax State Historic Site!
