October is Archaeology Month

This year, we proudly honor Archaeology Month alongside the nationwide America 250 commemoration, celebrating 250 years of the United States and the stories that shape our shared history. Archaeology offers a powerful window into those stories — revealing how people lived, worked, created, and built community. From early Indigenous cultures to the Revolutionary era and beyond, each artifact uncovered helps us understand the diverse experiences that contributed to the America we know today. It helps us connect the iconic moments with the everyday lives of the people who shaped them.

This month we invite visitors of all ages to explore the past through hands‑on events, public workshops and lectures, and volunteer opportunities across the state. Join us throughout the month as we celebrate the rich archaeological heritage of our state and recognize the many voices, cultures, and communities that have contributed to 250 years of American history.
