Archaeology Month 2016
October 2016 is North Carolina Archaeology Month

North Carolina has a rich cultural heritage dating back more than 10,000 years. This broad cultural history encompasses many different aspects of the human experience, from early Native American hunter-gatherers and European colonists, to the vast tapestry of peoples presently calling North Carolina home.
A key function of the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology (OSA) is to identify, preserve, and protect evidence of the state's cultural heritage for the enrichment of all North Carolinians. One of the ways the NC OSA fulfills this function is through public involvement, helping citizens realize the many connections they have with the past. The archaeological heritage that the NC OSA preserves benefits greatly when the public is engaged and involved.
